Description
For Sale: Bert. 1961 Karmann Ghia
Convertible LHD. Colour: METALLIC DIAMOND GREY GREEN. I've owned for circa 10 years and the owner before me for 7 years and it's an absolute joy.
I am slowly decreasing my car collection and it is now time for me to sell. During my ownership this car has been kept in a heated garage and rarely had seen rain.
Car was originally sold with 8 miles on the clock in San Francisco in Pacific Blue. I managed to trace the original owner who was in her 90's.
She sold the car to her father when she bought her first house. He then sold the car to a travelling insurance salesman as downpayment on a pension and finally Imported into the UK 1994. Car is solid, dry stored and is in excellent condition. The car had been lowered with adjustable narrowed front beam from CSP and was on Method Rims (currently fairly rare in the UK) but I removed these recently and now the car sits at its proper height with
Empi style rims and new tyres. The car and bodywork was restored and repainted, in L243 Diamond Grey, approximately 20 years ago by Airkraft in Cornwall. During my ownership there's been lots of the car finished or parts added. New black mohair roof and beige wool interior headliner by Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers Still standard 6v and dash has a rare working 6v tacho Dynomat fitted throughout interior Service history and receipts for all the time I've owned it plus more from previous owner Top end rebuild in 2012 by Airdubbers in Worcestershire Full carb refurb and rebuild New battery 6V LED turn signals and brake lights (the car has US red lens which most drivers didnt see with normal 6v bulbs in!) Just recently serviced and engine runs smoothly. I also had the gearbox completely rebuilt 20 miles ago as it jumped out of 4th gear, so the new owner can drive without any issues. Trimmed with a TMI interior. Birth Certificate from VW Pioneer stereo fitted in glove box with suitcase stereo on rear seat (easily removable) Loads of parts/ rubber seals fitted over the years to complete the car The gearbox as I said is new the horn button on the steering wheel doesn't work but is connected to a dash button.
There are some small stone chips (this is a car that enjoys being driven and isn't trailered!). There is very slight bubbling at low sill which was there when I bought it 10 years ago so hasn’t got any worse and doesn’t affect the look anyhow.
Overall it's a really special, clean car. More than happy to answer questions and I would love Bert to go on to another loving family.
