Description
1971 BMW 2800 (also known as the New Six, E3 or 'Bavaria'). Possibly the only one on the road in the UK. This is the larger of the two full-size luxury sporting saloons introduced in 1968. (I formerly had the 2500 model). Aside from the larger engine, the 2800 also has bigger tyres and a sportier suspension, as well as various creature comforts such as a heated rear window, a full tool set, Boge Nivomat self-levelling rear suspension, and more external chrome and internal woodwork. The body is surprisingly light for its size and visibility is also superb, with narrow pillars and a large glass area. I'd been looking for a 2800 ever since parting with a 2500 but there were none remaining registered in the UK. This 2800 was imported from South Africa about 18 months ago and has clearly benefited from the dry climate. The vehicle interior is in exceptional condition, it feels like stepping back in time when getting behind the wheel. Mechanically and cosmetically the BMW is in top condition and an absolute pleasure to drive.
About 18 months ago much work was carried out by Classic Bahnstormer, BMW classic car specialist. This included refurbishment of all 4 brake callipers, with new discs and pads, Carburettor refurbished and fine-tuned. The BMW has also received new track rods and alignment. The importer sourced and installed period correct alloys with new tyres. The original steel wheels and hub caps also come with the car. Can be viewed near Uxbridge. `This 2800 is one of the best cars I've driven from any era, especially in terms of the performance, the quality of the steering, gear-change, suspension and general road manners.
