Description
This 1966 Velocette Thruxton has frame / engine / gearbox numbers matching the factory records and carries it’s original registration number.
The bike is largely unrestored; it has had some refurbishment over the years and hence is in good clean condition but has signs of use including some dulling of the chrome work and minor scuffs & chips to the paintwork. It is still fitted with the original GP carb and Lucas Competition magneto. Indicated mileage of 3671 looks unrealistic in view of age and overall condition and should be disregarded.
I have fitted a centre stand (which was a factory option on this model) and the bike is now quite easy to start and runs well. The clutch operates satisfactorily and all the gears select smoothly. I have also fitted "Swan neck" style handlebars for a more practical riding position, but the original low clip-ons can accompany the bike if desired. This bike was sold new by Whittackers of Blackpool and was first registered on the 19. 9. 66. It was kept by its original owner for some 17 years before being sold to its last active rider-owner who in turn owned it for 34 years, but is understood to have laid it up in 1990, (the last tax disc was issued in 1989). Its 3rd owner then acquired it in 2017 and stored it as part of a small private collection until I bought it in September 2022.
Since I acquired the bike, I have completed a programme of light recommissioning only, rather than a full rebuild, so it still retains most of its original patina.
The bike is currently taxed & registered in my name with the DVLA and is ready to be ridden away.
