Description
1911 Darracq 15. 9HP
Registration No. VU873
Alexandre Darracq produced his first successful automobile with a combustion engine in 1900, after two failed endeavours in electric carriage making and a Voiturette under license by Leon Bollee. Fast forward 11 years to 1911, Darracq produced the 15. 9HP tourer. The car was powered by a 2. 4 litre, four cylinder engine coupled to a 3 speed gearbox.
‘VU873’ is a truly stunning example of the 1911 Darracq tourer. The car presents exceptionally well in all aspects and had an extensive restoration in the 1990s with pictures and invoices on file showing the extent of the work completed. The car also received substantial works by Nigel Parrott, NP Veteran Engineering in the form of a gearbox rebuild, clutch reline, brake re line and rear axle rebuild. The car is the complete, usable Edwardian touring car, offering excellent power delivery, electric starting, wet weather protection and working lighting.
The steering is light and responsive, the 3 speed gearbox with reverse is easy to master and the car starts on the button.
