Description
This superb RHD 1955 Jaguar XK140 DHC SE is presented in immaculate Imperial Maroon with biscuit leather hide.
The car was originally exported to New York as a special equipment model with overdrive after completion in Coventry in July 1955 as one of 480 RHD versions. On returning to the UK in September 1995 it was purchased by Mr. P. Robson. Under his ownership the car underwent a complete "chassie off" restoration, which was carried out at Twyford Moors Classic Cars and completed in March 1997.
The car was augmented for safe comfortable modern driving by the addition of numerous upgrades. These included a "C" type head conversion for unleaded petrol, fitting of an alternator, all round disc brakes, a sealed cooling system and Kenlow fan, and a stainless steel exhausted system. RSY 492 also received a "Getrag" five speed gearbox, electronic ignition, power steering, 2inch Sandcast SU carburettors, inertia reel seat-belts and a Clifford Concept alarm system.
During Mr. Robson's ownership the car was serviced and maintained exclusively by Twyford Moors. In 2016 the car was sold by Twyford Moors to the current owner who has maintained the relationship and fastidious care of the vehicle. It has received yearly maintenance, regardless of cost and further improvements have been made to the car by Twyford Moors.
These include replacement of the fuel pump and all fuel lines, an aluminium radiator, full brake overhaul as well as a full half engine renovation with new valves and crankshaft. Since that time the car has covered just under 6000miles. The aesthetic of the car has been improved with a new full mohair hood and re-upholstery by Aldridge trimming. It has been fitted with original, factory option, bucket seats and a removable wind deflector screen. The car also benefits from a lockable rear locker.
All parts and work are documented and verified on the official Jaguar Heritage Certificate. It comes with a comprehensive portfolio of documentation and photographs as well as a multitude of spares and period tools. RSY 492 has also just had a full professional detail and has a bespoke Jaguar car cover. This magnificent car has been cherished by careful owners. It has been involved in European tours and latterly a number of Jaguar owners club events around the United Kingdom with the present owner. It has only seen dry weather use for the last decade and has been carefully stored and maintained by the current owner who hopes to find a new custodian who will cherish the car as much as they do.
