Description
The MGC was a 2912cc straight six version of the MGB, sold from 1967 and continued in production until August 1969. It had twin SU carburettors which produced 145BHP at 5250 rpm. The body shell needed considerable revisions around the engine bay and to the floor pan, but externally the only differences were a distinctive bonnet bulge to accommodate the relocated radiator and a teardrop for carburettor clearance. It had different brakes from the MGB, 15-inch wheels with a lower geared rack and pinion steering and special torsion bar suspension with telescopic dampers.
This is a ’68 MGC GT Coupe (auto), being sold due to change in circumstances. Sensible offers considered, no p/ x.
An older restoration, it came into my possession (bought for my wife as a 30th Wedding Anniversary present for touring rallies), via a specialist MG dealer, believed to be from a collection of a deceased estate
We are the sixth owners (since 2020) but the car has seen little use, due to COVID etc
Odometer reads 36, 868 miles which is thought to be correct
Resprayed in its desirable original Mineral Blue colour; some very small chips & blemishes; panel fit and shut lines are good all round; no rust
Fitted with the superb 2912cc straight six engine (unleaded conversion) mated to the Borg Warner 3 speed auto box
Modified by us with after-market power steering with a faster rack & pinion, and upgraded front torsion and ball joints (to improve driveability for my wife)
Knock on/ off wire wheels and original toolkit (inc. spinner changer, jack etc)
Recent work on carbs, fuels lines, fuel pump, gearbox sump gasket and some cosmetic items
Replacement speedo cable with Retro Trip Master fitted inside glovebox (intended for occasional classic rallying)
Very clean in engine bay and underneath, never out in rain, kept garaged (car cover to go with the sale)
All the chrome is as original with a nice patina
The interior is all original e. g. original Leather bound Bakelite steering wheel; original seats (black with blue piping) showing patina and some age; original carpets and headlining; seat belts changed to MGOC inertia reels, but original BMC lap belts are with the car

Sold as seen, this is a classic car in near original condition this is a well cared for and practical in dealing with modern roads and driving; ready to go for touring or point-to-point road rallies, with historic road tax class exemption and very reasonable (classic car) insurance. The car was bought as a 30th Wedding Anniversary present for my wife. We have owned classic cares before, and I did competitive classic rallying for around 25 years. The intention was to use for more sedate touring or non-competitive point-to-point road rallying.
The car has loads of character and we have really enjoyed the occasions it has been used, but these have been limited as it was bought just before the COVID lock-down and has had limited use since.
Now a reluctant sale, due to changing circumstances.
