Description
For sale, you find my Jaguar XK8. I have owned this car since the beginning of the year and put nearly 2000 miles on it. Originally when I brought it home it had a rocker cover gasket leak which I have since changed on both sides and it’s running perfectly now with no oil burning on the exhaust manifold.
Whilst taking the rocker cover off to re gasket I was able to confirm the timing chain tensions have been upgraded from the plastic body tensions (known for splitting) to the metal bodied ones (happy to send photos of this). This gives me good reason to believe the water pump has been changed for the metal impeller version too.
This is the more desirable engine as its from 2001 so it is the post nickasill lined engine. Additionally as it’s the 4. 0 it is cheaper to tax and insure than the later 4. 2l engines!
In my ownership I have also:
- Rebuilt the NSF brake calliper as it was slightly binding and causing the car to pull to the left. As part of this I replaced both front brake discs and pads.
- Gearbox oil has been changed which has made a tremendous difference to how the autobox shifts.
-Been under the car and there is no noticeable structural rust or surface rust – it really does look good under there. As a result, I have given it a light coating on Bilt Hamber wax in an attempt to continue to preserve the underneath (photos of before and after available on request).
- Replaced the side indicators and front and rear reflectors with clear lenses, which I think modernises the car and helps an already sleek design look even better. Old lenses will be included in the sale, however one broke during removal.
I have purchased new front and rear ARB bushes, however not fitted them do not look bad at all.
The exterior of the car looks great for its age. It has the expected couple of stone chips and parking scratches for a 98k mile car. There are three notable dents which are mentioned below. As this is a 2001 car it benefits from the 4. 2 front bumper with cleaner lines around the front got lights
The interior of the car presents very well with trim and wood showing no sign of fading and little sign of wear to the interior. The headliner is also fine, with no sagging.
The car runs and drives absolutely fine and comes with limited service history, 2 keys and fobs, factory handbook and wallet. The aircon also blows ice cold!
Summary of work completed in my ownership:
- Rocker cover gaskets
- NSF brake calliper rebuild
- Replaced front discs and pads
- Gearbox fluid change
- Clear indicator upgrade
- Underside wax protection
- Trackrod end replacement (and alignment) (was MOT advisory)
- Rear ARB bushes replaced (was MOT advisory)
Improvements:
- Aerial does not retract fully
- Slight dent on the centre of the roof and top of both front wings
- Headrest on the passenger side does not adjust (motor faulty)
- Two front tyres could do with replacing – they have tread however they are aged and perished (mot advisory)
- Mot advisory pertaining to rear brake discs.
- Auto-dimming drivers wing mirror has delaminated
I have tried to be as honest as possible. The car is not perfect but a great future classic that runs and drives very well.
