Description
Range rover P38 4. 0 SE
I searched for ages to find this range rover, and really don't want to part with it, but I need to put money into my business.
It is imported from Japan, so no salt used on the roads. No rot on this car or bubbling arches you get on the British examples.
Spare tyre and tool set are basically brand new, never been fitted.
Great solid, (actually reliable!)
Has age related marks as you'd expect, but a very smart car over all.
The body would definitely benefit from a buff up, possibly hot weather in Japan.
There is a crease on the lower tailgate that needs sorting, but I haven't done it as the tail gate is so clean, the 2nd hand ones are worse.
Full history from Landrover Japan.
Also I was told when buying this car, it doesn't have the full complicated immobiliser system the UK ones do as at the time the Landrover network in Japan wasn't as big as it is now.
All I can say is the last Range Rover p38 stranded me in garage forecourts and other places, this one has been all over England on family holidays and never missed a beat.
Full leather interior, heated front seats, air con etc.
Cheap to insure on a classic policy.
I have spent a lot of time and money on this car, but I loved doing it.
I have had the heads skimmed, I have fitted a kent cam, kent lifters, new timing chain. New oil cooler. New sport type manifold gaskets with stainless bolts. It's had modern heated seat pads installed. It's been put on springs. It's had a really nice stainless steel twin exhaust fitted which cost a lot. I have had the rear bumper inner iron blasted and powder coated.
It's got great tyres all road, and not budgets either. I've owned 2 Range Rover classics in the past, I loved them, but my particular ones suffered with rust, and I felt I wanted something a bit smoother, I bought myself a P38 and it was obviously totally different, absolutely loved it. The problem though was that it stranded me several times, and I just lost faith in it like many others have in the past.
Years went by and I was in a position to buy one again after owning a defender, I felt my back needed help.
I found a place that specialised in Japanese imported range rovers, had a long chat with the guy and explained not having much faith in the reliability, he explained the ones from Japan don't have all that complex security system on them. Half believing him, I bought it anyway (heart over head as usual!)
I drove it back from York I think around 4 years ago now, it has never let me down, always gets compliments or thumbs up.
