Description
This motorbike has been in the first owner hands for almost 50 years and was sold by the widow of him to a private collector. I bought the bike from him 12 years ago.
The bike is complete and in perfect running order. I ride it reguarly. It starts right up every time and runs really smooth. Gearbox is perfect as well as the clutch. I added recently a Pagusa rear seat, those that mount on top of the luggage rack.
It is not a showpiece since, as stated before, it is ridden quite often. It is complete with matching numbers (frame, engine and ID plate). It is certainly a great unit to transform into a masterpiece or just ride it like it is. It has the orignial magneto and centrifugal ingition advance and also the 6v original generator.
I sell it since I am involved in another project and need some cash to make it happen. The BMW R51/ 3 was BMW's second post-World War II 500 cc motorcycle, following the briefly produced R51/ 2. It featured a flat-twin engine and exposed drive shaft. In 1951, the R51/ 3 succeeded and modernized the 1950 R51/ 2, which was essentially a pre-war design that was produced after the war. This particular one is an early R51/ 3 featuring the half-width brakes.
