Description

This Bentley MKVI Special was originally commissioned by Alex Tanner. Based on a MK VI Chassis, the engine was moved back and replaced with a B61 4. 9 LTR motor, BDC 292:1 CWP, and Harry Rose body. The previous owner further improved the car, fitting doors and a polycarbonate screen. The brakes and servo were refurbished. The seats and lights were also upgraded. By the late 1960s, many Bentley MkVIs had succumbed to serious body rot, yet their mechanicals remained in first-class order. The result was the rise of the Bentley specials movement, and I am pleased to offer one originally built by one of the Bentley specials movement's leading lights, Harry Rose. The result is an unashamedly honest, simple example with better proportions than many later examples. The bodywork and running boards remain in good order, as does the paint, and the chunky-tread tires (fitted to steel wheels) appear in good order. The interior is reasonably basic but tidy. Twin bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl and tidy, as is the carpet, and the wooden dashboard houses a selection of useful instrumentation. Interested parties will be pleased to know that when the conversion was carried out, a larger, 4. 9-liter engine was fitted while more recent work includes the fitting of a racing-specification radiator and upgrades to the fuel system. I have owned this car for a short period of time. In this time, I have had the car fully inspected and upgrades made: new racing high-flow radiator fan, all new electronics system, new coil leads, spark plugs, and a new, more modern distributor made by a racing company dealing in classic cars. I had it professionally tuned and timed up by Tyrell's Classic Workshop, a leader in the field of classic cars. I have also had the wheels painted to match the body, which gives it now an amazing look. The car starts and drives beautifully with great power from the 4. 9L straight 6 engine. Unforeseen circumstances force the sale of this wonderful car, a real head-turner. In November 2016, the vehicle was professionally serviced and the front suspension was modified in preparation for a long-distance tour. After that, the car was shipped to New Zealand. Unfortunately, during the time the car was being shipped, the vendor fell ill and was unable to attend the event but luckily found a volunteer to take his place. The car completed the tour of two islands and was shipped back to Southampton in April where it was met by the vendor and driven back to Devon. After arriving back in the UK, this car was put on display in a classic car museum.
