Description
MERCEDES BENZ W108 280SE - RHD
Open to sensible offers.
This car was imported from South African by myself in 2021.
Fully registered on a UK V5
I chose this vehicle because of the solid base with no rust and great mechanical condition.
Bought direct from long standing MB owners club member
The vehicle presents well and can be proudly used immediately.
As it is over 50 years old, and is registered as a Historic vehicle with the DVLA - MOT and TAX exempt.
Original SA supplied car, 4 Doors, with sought after manual floor shift and fuel injection in Burgundy red
Original matching engine and chassis numbers. The full history of this vehicle is not known but the vehicle shows patina in line with its age.
Prior to purchasing the vehicle, the following was done (late 2020)
Full engine service, oil, filters, etc
Fuel tank and fuel lines cleaned.
Brake fluid replaced.
In January 2021 the following was done under my ownership just before importing the vehicle.
New Ignition lock
New front windscreen
New Battery
Grill chrome trimmings replaced and refurbished.
Dashboard upper re-upholster
Door panel upper strips re-upholster
All seats newly reupholstered in full leather.
Some recent work in the UK includes: (Feb 2024)
Health check on suspension and steering parts (and deemed in good order)
Front brake calliper refurb and complete brake fluid change.
Fuel plump stripped and cleaned pump outlets, then set pump compression tested.
Fitted new spark plugs.
Repaired coolant hose and replaced coolant
Leak on the oil feed pipe to fuel pump repaired
New rocker cover gasket fitted.
Mechanics notes on invoice "The car is in good condition looks like most bushes and steering linkages have been replaced, Car has been undersealed"
"slight oil weep front distributor cover plate, plug leads will require replacement"
As with any classic, especially when priced as fairly as this one, there will always some areas to improve, this vehicle would like some attention to door rubbers, and the clutch will need attention, as it struggles to engage reverse while engine is ticking over, I have just overcome this by killing the engine, and then engaging reverse when required. still a absolute joy to drive as is.
