Description
I have for sale this superb Mercedes Benz R129 320 SL. The condition is excellent finished in two tone silver/ grey with a dark blue interior and hood. The bodywork is lovely with just a few very tiny blemish dots/ stone chips. I would describe the paintwork as way above average. It is clear that at some time in the past, the car was resprayed and given a two-tone silver grey finish, though there is no record of this. The car has a comprehensive history file and has been well looked after throughout its life. During my 6 years of ownership the car has never missed a beat and been utterly reliable. In April 2015 this car received a brand-new cylinder head, 12 intake valves, 12 exhaust valves, Gasket set, water pump and thermostat. All parts from MB totalling in excess of £4500. it drives superb, the gearbox is smooth and the engine whisper quiet. It starts on the button and is an utter delight to drive. No rattles, creaks or groans. It sits on the road nicely with composed suspension on a set of Avon ZV7 tyres with loads of tread. Pure top quality MB engineering. The soft top works flawlessly, as does everything else. The vehicle has been properly serviced throughout its life. It has just had its alloy wheels refurbished and the air con regassed - ice cold. The non original Sony Head CD/ Tuner has Bluetooth connectivity and works very well. The car has been retro fitted with reversing sensors.
I know I live miles from anywhere, so I am prepared to meet buyers at Cardiff Station at no extra cost. I have decribed the vehicle accurately and I am confident that you will not be disappointed in this most excellent car.
There are a few minor items that the new owner may like to work on, as follows:
1. Plastic rear window in soft top stiching coming away on left side - properly benefit froma new back window. Like that when I bought the car and as I never used the car in the wet I decided not to worry about it.
2. The under bonnet engine insulation needs renewing. The part (from the SL Shop - Insulation plus glue and fittings) is included (see photos) with the car and just needs fitting, which is a DIY job, I understand.
3. The small storage compartment in the middle of the dash above the air vents does not always click shut. It did and the mechanism is not broken but it needs some fettling.
4. Please note the MOT advisory for a coolant leak is incorrect!! The MOT tester saw what looked like coolant but it was residue from when the Air Con was serviced. The coolant system has been pressure tested and there is NO leak. I'll happliy show you where it sits in the garage and there are no oil or collant spot/ puddles, etc. the engine is all good.

In case you're wondering, I'm selling as my son has just started to learn to drive and I want to buy him a car so this must go. I'll miss the SL a lot! Its lovely driving manners, excellent MB engineering, and understated elegance always makes me smile, and gets lots of admiring glances. The MB designer, Bruno Sacco called the R129 his most perfect car.
