Description
As a very late evolution of the classic MGB, Rover built the MG RV8 between 1992 and 1995. The chassis was only slightly improved and still had the old leaf-sprung rear axle of the MGB. The bonnet and doors also came from the old model, as did the rear drum brakes. But the new engine was the familiar Rover V8 from the old MGB GT V8, albeit with a displacement of 3, 947 cc. A limited slip differential was also fitted.
The interior met luxury standards and featured elm wood veneer and Conolly leather.
Driving performance was good; 190 hp (142 kW) at 4, 750 rpm made it possible to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/ h in 5. 9 seconds. Mainly due to its rear drum brakes and rear axle suspension on leaf springs, the RV8 was considered outdated from the outset. However, this did not prevent it from achieving at least a modest sales success, and it paved the way for the introduction of the modern MGF a few years later.
The car also paid off with increased interest in British products in Japan, where around 75% of the production of 2, 000 vehicles went and many later returned as re-imports.
The example presented here was delivered to Auto Becker in Düsseldorf on 1 March 1995 and has spent its life to date in Germany. Only 60 units were delivered in the colour British Racing Green Metallic. The vehicle, which was only used in summer, comes complete with tools, tarpaulins, workshop and spare parts manual, new stainless steel exhaust system, whereby the original one is in good condition.
The RV8 has a high-performance radiator, a new reinforced electric fan and professionally fitted ventilation slots in the metal bonnet. The rear window and battery as well as all filters are new and all customer services have been carried out.
This example of the RV8 is therefore in almost immaculate condition apart from a few small dents as shown in the pictures. The sound and the driving experience are priceless.
