Description
For sale is this beloved MY2000 Honda S2000 AP1, finished in the launch spec Silverstone Metallic with Red leather interior (Type Z). It has been well-cared for under my care and always garaged. The previous owner had the car since early 2011, only driving it in the summers and stored in a heated garage otherwise. Delivered in September 2000 by Cornes Motor in Middlesex, this car has had quite a life all over the country; residing in London, Upper Midlands, then on to Scotland and now back in the Midlands. It sits proud and strong at 89. 9k miles, and under my care has undergone a fairly substantial amount of preventative maintenance (including all new seals in the top half of the engine, new spark plugs, new AC condenser, new pulleys and belts) and light modifications (including stronger AP2 intake retainers) at Honda specialists Red R Performance in Weedon Bec. If you are reading this, you will know that the F20C requires a tad bit more care than a run-of-the-mill K20, and all required care has been taken to preserve this gem of an engine (valve clearances last checked in May 2024). Before you call to ask if the VTEC engages as it should, it most definitely does! It has full, regular service history, mostly at Honda main dealers till 2013, then at other specialists through its life with the clutch was replaced at 69k miles, transmission & diff oil changed at 81k miles. In terms of modifications, it has a Koyorad radiator with a Spoon expansion cap and a Bilman Timing Chain Tensioner (I’m pretty sure it is the best TCT available for this engine, see S2Ki forums for more information on his work), both from USA. If you want more information on the engine, I’m happy to explain over a call. It also has 4x Michelin PS4 with less than 1500 miles on them.
Interior-wise, its condition definitely defies its age as I’ve seen much newer cars with worse leather. It has ALPINE MRV-T420 amp with Infinity Kappa series speakers, ALPINE CDE-9850Ri head unit, giving it quite a punchy, yet clear sound. It has the Modifry central console organiser, which believe it or not is really useful! There is nothing of concern to talk about the interior, really, so let’s move on to the exterior. There are a couple of chips on the windscreen, which you will see on the MOT advisory but for what I believe is the original glass, it is really commendable to find it in this state.
There is a minor dent from possible rock chips (on driver’s side rear quarter) and light corrosion in the common areas (end of rear wheel arches, corners of front bonnet), although they have been painted over. The sills themselves were repaired at some point in its life (possibly in 2016), and would definitely benefit having looked at in future, but not requiring immediate attention. I don’t have any underbody pictures, but it was wax oiled by the previous owner and shows very minor signs of surface corrosion, which is quite common in these cars. I have tried to capture these issues the best I could in the pictures. The wheels would also benefit from a refurb if you want to bring it to concourse-spec. Something you won’t have to worry is the red crinkle paint flaking off the valve cover, as this has been painted to match the body colour with proper clear coat.
I obviously have the full set of keys, all relevant paperwork, manuals, folders and the book on the S2000. I have enjoyed this car over the year and a bit of ownership, having spent a substantial amount on bullet-proofing the powertrain side of things. It now needs someone who can enjoy driving without having to worry about ‘if it will break down’, and someone who can sort out the issues mentioned, in future. This obviously does not take anything away from the experience of driving this car for pure enjoyment, and I only hope that the new owner would be someone who understands and appreciates how special an AP1 S2000 is! If you are new to S2ks, this also falls under the cheaper tax bracket, later cars are somewhere north of £500 per year.
I have an extra set of wheels with Toyo tyres, which I’m happy to include with the car for the advertised price. I also have a freshly painted black hardtop (giving it the S2000 CR look) with all necessary accessories including the stand, which I can add to the deal for £3k extra.
