Description
1958 Sunbeam Rapier Series II - Very Rare & Useable Classic
Hi and welcome to the listing for my lovely 1958 Sunbeam Rapier.
Comes with a series of handwritten notes which reveal an interesting history: It was in storage at a Rover garage from the early 60's until the 90s when it was then purchased and a restoration took place. It looks to have been repainted in 2016 and at some point (possibly 2012) some extensive engine works were completed, including but not limited to:
-The 1494cc engine being rebored out to 1538cc
-New pistons & rings
-NOS crankshaft
-New main & big end shells
-New thrust washers
-New timing chain
-Reprofiled camshaft
-New cam followers
-Head skimmed
-New & reprofiled inlet and exhaust valves
-Ports gas flowed
-Zenith carbs stripped & cleaned
-New exhaust
-New brake seals, clutch, lightened flywheel and more...!
As such, on the road it drives very well indeed. It goes really well no doubt as a result of all the engine work it has benefited from. I should imagine this all gives it a significant power bump over standard specification.
The interior is a nice place to be with the early style dash and dial layout, the seats are in good condition. The speedo and rev counter both work and it also has working overdrive. It is showing 81k miles which could well be correct.
Whilst the car presents nice outwardly in its two-tone blue/ black with shiny chromework, there are some cosmetic flaws which could be improved upon - there is evidence of previous repairs and bubbling in places however this doesn't detract from its overall beautiful appearance. It is a solid and useable classic.
Comes with original workshop manual and Haynes workshop manual, handwritten notes and parts invoices.
I can assist with delivery for an additional cost once the car has been paid for.
Any questions, feel free to send me a message.
Thanks for looking.
