Description
Delivered to its UK buyer in November 1989 with rare manual gearbox and LSD from factory, this car’s service booklet is mostly full up until 2008, when it was parked up with 120, 000 miles on the clock. MOT records show that it stayed parked for most of the next 12 years, until it was acquired by Cosford Hall Classics in 2020 and recommissioned, with new fuel lines, some new suspension components up front, a rebuilt steering box, and a stainless steel exhaust from the manifold back.
Spending more than a decade in storage saved it from the worst of the rust that typically eats these E34s alive, but some problem areas will need work, and I’ll list them first:
Sill corners and one jacking point will need welding, and one rust bubble on the driver’s side rear arch needs attention. These areas are currently covered with fluid film to prevent further deterioration. Several dents need the PDR treatment and some panel gaps will need to be straightened.
The interior is in decent condition. Driver’s seat has the typical E34 wear, one door card is shabby, and the headliner is beginning to sag. Original mats in decent condition, new gear knob fitted, sunroof works, new JBL speakers all round, Blaupunkt bluetooth head unit and original period-correct unit included.
Engine-wise, the car is in top condition. I bought it at 144, 000 miles last August, and have serviced it twice with Valvoline oil and OEM filters. A compression test at 147, 000 showed no loss on any cylinders. Since then it’s also had:
Valve clearances set
Entire cooling system replaced including all hoses, fan clutch, thermostat, w/ pump, sensors, heater valves and hoses
Power steering pump rebuilt, new reservoir and lines
New brake discs, pads, hoses, hardlines, front calipers rebuilt
Polybushed rear subframe, new dogbones and trailing arm bushes
New rocker cover gasket and oil pan gasket
Shifter linkage rebuilt
Set of eibach sport springs to be fitted, will include
Car could probably use a new distributor and front sway bar bushes. I'll be firmer on price if I get around to doing them before sale. Needs one tie rod for NCT, fail sheet here.
I bought this car last year as a fun semi-daily cruiser, but I've since gotten my hands on an E39 and can't afford to give this the love it needs, and don't want to see it rot in my driveway.
As mentioned above, this was originally a UK car, so there should be no re-import charges. UK reg number was G674RKE if you want to check its history.
