Description
Presented in 1977, Porsche created with the 928 a serious long distance grand touring car that could also tackle twisting B-roads with ease, thanks to super-direct steering, 50/ 50 weight distribution, and a clever Weissach rear axle that kept the car firmly planted. The original 4. 5-litre engine generated 240 bhp, but, mated to a relatively heavy car, the performance wasn't in the 911 category. So Porsche introduced the '928 S' fitted with a 4. 7-litre version of the engine and generating 310 bhp. This began to deliver the car’s potential, achieving 0-60 times of around 7 seconds, and indeed any acceleration from 3, 000 rpm was now in the supercar league.
This particular Porsche 928 S is originally delivered in january 1985 to South Africa where it has been enjoyed by just one previous owner, before I bought it in 2016 and bring it to germany. It’s finished in an appealing Saphire Blue Metallic with a sumptuous deep black leather interior which clearly has not had a hard life. The equipment includes pop-up headlights, a rear screen wiper, air conditioning, electrically operated windows and door mirrors, central locking, cruise control and electrically adjustable front seats. This desirable specification also includes a sunroof and a Blaupunkt Stereo Radio (Bremen SQR32) in conjunction with a rare “Schwanenhals Equalizer” (Blaupunkt BEQ-S2). It rides on a set of 16-inch ‘Flat Disc’ alloy wheels, shod in Goodyear Efficient Grip. The car comes with a decent provenance, driver's manual, and a complete service record showing all the stamps, with the last one only having been completed some 2500 miles (4000 km) ago.
Over the eight years of my ownership, I spent more than 20000 Euros in major maintenance and repairs, which consisted of new timing belt, belt tensioner, water pump, automatic gearbox, front spoiler, two new tires, air-mass sensor, overhaul fuel injection system (all 2017), new dampers on the rear axle (2019), overhaul instrument cluster, new door lock left (all 2021), new battery (2022) and overhaul electric roof (2024). The last oil service was in april 2024.
This attractive 928 S has covered the equivalent of just 90, 700 miles (145152 km), which for a V8 of this nature is nothing.
