One of the 278 RZs produced
Production number 258
Amazing 3. 0-litre V6 Busso engine
Great condition, known history
The Alfa Romeo RZ is a true rarity and represents Alfa Romeo's effort in the late 80s to stir up the stagnant waters of its production line. The first model to appear was the coupe called SZ, with the first eleven cars delivered to customers in 1989. The peak production years for the SZ were 1990 and 1991, with a total of 1, 036 coupes produced, all left-hand drive. After SZ production ended, a roadster called RZ followed with a planned production run of 350 cars. However, only 278 units were ultimately made by 1994, likely due to the high price (for comparison, it was twice as expensive as the flagship model at the time, the Alfa Romeo 164).
The technical setup was the same: under the hood was a 3. 0-liter V6 engine producing 210 horsepower, with a chassis and suspension system based on the 75 Group A model (essentially a race car), a five-speed manual transmission mounted at the rear axle (transaxle), and the iconic sci-fi body designed by Robert Opron, with final assembly done by Zagato (who had a bit more influence on the design of the roadster). The RZ was available in more colors than the SZ – besides the introduced black, there were yellow, red, and silver options (with one even in white).
The offered Alfa comes from the end of the production cycle (the plate by the gear lever shows number 258) and was originally sold to its first owner in Germany, according to available documents. It then moved to a showroom and in 2017 was brought to the Czech Republic, where the current owner registered it. The car is in overall very good condition and only requires minor, mostly preventive maintenance, along with some attention to the suspension area. Otherwise, it runs perfectly, drives beautifully, rides smoothly, brakes effectively, and everything is fully functional. A unique Alfa Romeo that stands on a solid technical foundation – and thanks to the fact that the body panels are made of Modar acrylic resin reinforced with fiberglass, you don’t have to worry about rust, which is a nice bonus. A unique limited edition for someone looking for a great driving and original Alfa from the 90s!
