Description

1964/ 5 Alfa Romeo Giulia sprint GT

The bodywork:

The body presents very well with a great depth of shine and good panel gaps. Finished in Bianco spino (incidentally one of the 2 original GTA colours). Original chrome front bumper with the correct sprint GT grille/ s and ‘scudetto’. The body has faired well for an unrestored 60 year old car, of course improvements can always be made; at the discretion of the next custodian.

The engine and gearbox:

The upgraded 2000cc engine is a practical and desirable upgrade to any 105, more power, torque and a great starting point to improve further. The engine runs well, pulls well and doesn’t smoke or rattle etc. Dellorto DHLA40’s breathing through the GTA styled angled trumpets are a sound and a half!
A new water pump, hoses, belt, cap, leads, plugs, filters, fan, alloy carb mounts etc were all fit in 22
The engine has a full stainless steel Alfaholics sports exhaust, this is a great upgrade from the meagre standard exhaust, not only for durability but for power and of course the sound of the 60’s raspy 4 pot!
The gearbox is a delight to operate and selects gears without fuss or rejection, no whines, graunches etc- clutch is now operated through hydraulics.

The suspension:

The 105 is celebrated for many things, handling is certainly at the top of the list- vastly improved (from the already good starting point) with the classic Alfa suspension kit with stiffer, lower springs, thicker front anti-roll bar with polyflex bushes and new Koni sport dampers. The car sits nicely and handles very well. The ball joints were all replaced at time of fitting in 2022.

The brakes:

The brakes have been upgraded from Dunlop to ATE, This is a practical and economic upgrade due to complexity and reliability of Dunlop units. The upgrade has been further made by the addition of the big brake kit up front with 2 piece discs and big 4 pot allumium calipers. Ferodo DS2000 brake pads are fit along with good ridge hoses and new drilled sports discs and new pads on the rear. Once again this was fit in 2022 along with suspension

The interior:

The interior is unique to early sprint GT’s and GTA’s with the flat dashboard and grey mottled finish. The interior is largely unrestored and has a quite nice charm.
The front seats are ‘Bourdigari’ GTA corsa type seats mounted to original sprint GT sliders and so adjustable. The steering wheel is a ‘Hellebore’ GTA wheel with horn and hub- fitted new in 2022.

Summary:

Desirable early step front GT in RHD; can be used and enjoyed as it is and improved as and when next owner seems fit. A great starting point to make a dyncamic 105 road car or even a pre-66 race car.
