Description
EIA3638 was purchased as a one owner Irish barn find in October 2013, with 13, 800 genuine miles on the clock and the plastic covering still on the door cards. (Current Log book shows 1 previous owner)
April - August 2014 Barkstons of Grantham performed highest quality complete bodywork, back to the metal restoration using all NOS body panels, to the beautiful original colour, Renault 686 Gris Metal. All mechanicals are sweet and original, the fuel tank, radiator was refurbished, fuel pump and coolant pump replaced. Carburettor rebuilt at Carburettor Exchange, brake callipers restored at Past Parts, wheels repainted at Wheel Genie, and other sundry parts from Franzose. Tyres replaced with genuine Michelin ZX radials. New Headlights/ side lights fitted. Invoices etc to prove in extensive history file. (Restoration alone cost £14k) Always garaged. Replacement windscreen available.
The interior was mint, but I wanted seats in cloth Euro style. Following purchase of second hand set, these were reupholstered with blue French cloth replacing the original black leatherette seats which I still have.
Back on the road in September 2014, I have now covered more miles than the car did in the first 43 years! Perfectly reliable, (and quiet with full sound proofing fitted) the Renault 10 keeps up with modern traffic, and have recently visited classic car shows in Reims, and Ciney, together with nice long runs down to Cornwall..... The car was the subject of an excellent Buyers Guide article in Classic & Sportscar magazine in 2018, which was distributed world-wide, with admiring comments from Australian and Irish enthusiasts. Much in the media, see YTube “Renault 10 Drive” (read the comments!!). If you search under the reg. in a Search Engine (Images) there are plenty, and I was able to download the original C&SC mag Buyers Guide…worth reading Mr McKay’s excellent Guide, as well as really great pro pics. See also “35 discontinued Renaults #15” in C&SC mag…etc
I will be very sorry to see it go, but very limited garage space is now needed for a classic Merc.. Priced very reasonably at £7, 950. (An absolute bargain considering the money spent on what is maybe the lowest genuine miles example in such a rare and excellent condition)
