Description
HISTORY ALFA ROMEO GIULIETTA SPIDER 1961
I am the third owner of this car. The first owner was Mr Arnold Fitzherbert, bankdirector of the Midland Bank in Regent street London. He bought the car on April 4, 1962 at Thomson & Taylor in Cobham, Surrey (UK) and had the car delivered to Boulogne. He specially ordered a LEFTHAND DRIVE car because he wanted to tour around continental Europe. Because the car was delivered to Boulogne he did not have to pay taks on the car, but was not allowed to drive in England. Therefore the car had a so called “Q” plate: QH-10-97 (tax-free). The car was built in 1961. The original invoice for the car is in my possession, as is the invoice for the transport from Cobham to Boulogne. The first 3 services of the car were in Amsterdam, Luxembourg and Pully (France).
The second owner of the car was Mr Sander Jansen. He bought the car from Mr Fitzherbert on the 17th of July 1977 and imported the car to Holland in August of that year. For 14 years the Alfa was stalled in a glasshouse in the west of Holland, while parts for the Alfa were collected from different countries, especially Italy. In those days there were no replica parts available, so it was looking for “old stock”, which was not easy. The car body was then restored from 1991 to 1994 in Delft and so was the engine by an Alfa specialist. The spider was presented for a technical inspection on July 17 1995 and received the number plate: DL-49-66.
I bought the Alfa from Mr Jansen on the 29th of August 1998. At that time the Alfa had done 62580 kms. That was the best decision I ever made: my wife and I spent the best holidays of our life touring through the Provence, Tuscany, Corsica, Sardegna, Sicily, the Amalfi coast and the Cote d’Azur. I also used the car for international rally’s. On July 7 2009 I imported the Alfa to Spain where we have a house. It was put on Spanish registration on 2 September 2010. We have made numerous trips along the Costa del Sol and in Andalucia. In 2017 the motor of the Alfa was completely restored and the body was resprayed. Since then not many kms were added. So it now is in immaculate condition.
I brought the car back to Holland on October 3 2024 because I want to sell it. It now is again on the original Dutch plates : DL-49-66.
