1968 Chevrolet Camero SS 396 big block

The perfect car for a fan of proper American horsepower, this genuine 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport 396 is everything you’d expect a big block 60’s muscle car to be. Fitted with the desirable 4 speed Muncie manual transmission and a long list of driver focused modifications, it aches to be enjoyed by its new owner.

This super quick monster is powered by a fully restored 396ci big block V8, good for in excess of 400bhp, this SS has benefited from recent substantial mechanical work. Beneath the rebuilt 750cfm Holley carburettor, the block has been completely stripped, cleaned, painted and treated to; fully balanced new 4340 Eagle crank shaft, all new bearings, rod bolts, new rings, timing set, plugs and leads - All put together with genuine ARP bolts. In addition, it is fitted with a Edlebrock performer RPM Air Gap intake manifold and flamethrower electronic distributor. Increasing efficiency and horsepower with ceramic coated, Headman long tube headers coupled to a Magnaflow a stainless Steel exhaust system with electric exhaust cut-outs to really let her sing.

Flawless bodywork is finished in the gorgeous original factory shade of Le Mans Blue, this Camaro benefits from the RS options and has been fitted with the original Rallye steel wheels powder coated and fitted with correct option chrome trims. Inside the interior is stunning black on black. The original gauges have been upgraded with a set of brand new Dakota digital RTX-68C-CAC-X gauges.

Installed with a period correct Hurst shifter, the Muncie M21 four speed has also been rebuilt with new input bearings seals and gaskets and is coupled to a light weight aluminium driveshaft. The increase in power meant that power assisted, grooved and drilled disc brakes were required for maximum performance. Other improvements include double fan assisted Aluminium aftermarket radiator and Stainless steel fuel tank.

Mike not only managed it within 12 hours, he also found an incredible one-owner SS396 with a 4-speed manual gearbox down in Seattle, so special that he then shipped it back home to the UK where he set about an extensive restoration from the ground up.
