Description
1977 Ford Escort 1600 Sport replica
Freshly built to full FIA international specification (in accordance with FIA homologation number 5586) ZERO kms on all components.
Fully legal for all types of rallying in UK including Targa rallies, Road rallies, Stage and historic stage rallies, regularity and demonstration events. Could also be used for sprints, hillclimbs or trackdays. Built as a LHD with a view to going to Europe in the coming seasons.
BODYSHELL: Originally a 1300, the shell was chemically stripped and etch primed with repairs limited to one new front wing, both outer rear arches and 3 small repairs to the floor panels. Otherwise, the shell is 100% original and retains its original floors, inner wings, chassis rails, front and rear panels and all other outer panels. During the conversion, the shell was fitted with all the usual RS2000 style strengthening panels.
ENGINE/ GEARBOX/ AXLE: the engine is a GT specification 1600 crossflow which came from a scrapped (rotten) car with just 16000 kilometers recorded (confirmed by the previous owner). The engine was stripped, chemically cleaned and rebuilt using new parts as necessary but is still on standard bores and standard crank bearings. It has a new Weber carb (28/ 32 DGAV), a new Aldon distributor and new upgraded Bosch starter and alternator. New radiator. AP competition clutch. The engine is converted to unleaded fuel, was balanced before assembly and is fitted with a new 4 branch manifold and matching exhaust system.
TRANSMISSION: The gearbox is a genuine 1600 Sport ‘box fitted with a quick shift lever. It was checked and rebuilt by a gearbox specialist before fitting. The axle is a strengthened English Axle with a rebuilt 3. 9:1 CWP and a new QUAIFE plate type limited slip diff unit.
SUSPENSION and BRAKES: front; World Cup crossmember, Mexico antiroll bar, double width kit, Quick-rack, Gp1 Bilstein struts with 360/ 60 inserts and roller bearing top mounts, 175lb springs, RS 2000 vented discs and M16 calipers. Rear; 140lb single leaf springs, anti tramp bars, Bilstein shock absorbers, 9” drum brakes.
The car has a Bias adjustable pedal box and a hydraulic handbrake (with original handbrake lever and cable in place so that it is legal for road events).
OTHER DETAILS; all fuel and brake lines are in Aeroquip braided hoses, 12 gallon central fuel tank, battery in boot, MUK mudflaps with steel brackets, lamp brackets for 4 auxillary lamps (with all relayed wiring in place), genuine (working) heated rear screen and heated windscreen. The car has a heater box with new heat exchanger and rebuilt heater blower fan. There are nine 5. 5” steel wheels and some tyres included with the car.
I have the V5 in my name which shows it as a 1300. The car is tax and MOT exempt but it can have a full MOT before sale, if desired.
Stage Rally Logbook and a Historic Rally Vehicle Identification Form included. All in all, this is a super little rally car which offers a great way into Historic Stage Rallying or is perfect as an entry level car for European events where it would be very welcome and cheap to run.
It is 100% ready to rally – buy it today and do an event tomorrow if you like (or just lock it away and watch the prices go up!)
