Description
I have owned my NK2000 for over ten years. It has been incredibly reliable and has never let me down. The head has been skimmed and valve seats hardened, so that it runs on unleaded fuel. A programmable electronic distributor has been fitted, supplied by BMW specialists Jaymic. Over the years, the mechanical fuel pump has been replaced; the radiator has been upgraded with a modern core; front callipers were rebuilt a few years ago; Bilstein Gas Shocks fitted; front steering bar replaced; exhaust manifold replaced; rear silencer replaced several years ago.
The car runs on Alloy Wheels, which bear the logo ITALA on the inside of the casting. Tyres are currently Falkens, which ride and grip really well. The interior is totally original, apart from new padding in the front seats. The back seat feels as if it has rarely been used. A modern Bluetooth Radio unit is installed, but the original Becker Radio is still installed too.
The bodywork is showing rust blisters in the usual places, following a respray a couple of years after I acquired the car. The lower rear wing below the bumper on one side is showing rust coming through. However, both sills were replaced 12 months ago, and necessary repairs to the inner sill sections carried out by a Bodywork Specialist (name available upon request).
I frequently drive the NK on a daily basis during Spring, Summer & early Autumn, but she is always off the road in the winter, dry stored. I will bring her out of storage for viewing as and when necessary. I bought the car as soon as I saw the advert in early 2014, as I remembered seeing just the one in the 70's and never forgot what a pretty car it was. Everyone who sees it comments on the design and it always turns heads. It is great fun to drive, and comfortable over long distances. Apart from Covid, I have driven the car to South West France every September, to take part in the Rallye de Charente, which it takes in its stride, every time. I have also taken it to numerous UK shows, including some BMW Club events - it even featured at a Chris Evans Car-Fest a couple of years ago.
After 10 years, it is time to move on, and with probably only 30 or so of these Neue Klasse 2000's on UK roads, it is an opportunity to join a select club of owners!!
