Description
For sale … a beautiful 1968 Marcos 1600GT in stunning condition with only 57, 800 miles on the clock and just 2 owners in almost the last 50 years.
This car has undergone an extensive restoration and rebuild by a well-known classic car restorer, including the chassis, all new suspension, wiring loom, coolant & brake piping, discs and pads, bushes, gearbox, alloys, tyres, bespoke leather dashboard and lots, lots more [full photographic record and details of the entire process are available to anyone who is really interested]. The car now even has two full interiors in black and white.
The last owner had this Marcos for over 40 years and his advert stated "... restored to an excellent condition both mechanically and bodily ...". He showed me all the trophies he had won with the car in concourse competitions over his years of ownership and the car certainly looked in amazing condition on the face of it.
Unfortunately, when I took it to a classic car specialist garage to be checked over [which I obviously should have done before I bought it] they found that the car wasn't safe to drive and needed a lot of work. The suspension even collapsed while the car was on the ramps and I’m just glad that didn’t happen while I was driving it.
I asked the classic car specialist to do whatever was necessary to restore the car to outstanding condition and they have really done an amazing job.
However, in total, I have now spent some £35, 000 and have ended up with a stunningly beautiful Marcos and a rather unhappy wife!
So, I have reluctantly decided to sell the car in order to resolve that situation!
I would obviously love to sell this car for what I have actually spent … but sadly, being realistic, I know that’s not going to happen. However, the £35, 000 I have spent has produced a beautiful car and someone is going to really benefit from all the money I have spent.
Offers in excess of £25, 000In my opinion, the Marcos GT is one of the most stunning cars ever designed and this car is now a credit to the marque.
I took the Marcos to Goodwood earlier in the year, where it was on display at this very well attended public event and attracted enormous attention. So many people commented on the outstanding condition of the car and how stunning it looks in red ... and I have to agree.
