Description

1973 Commer TS3 Motorhome Classic Bus.

This is such a rare and unusual vehicle. Its a 1973 Commer TS3 which was originally purpose built as a blood transfusion service unit for the NHS / public sector. A purpose built Lex Tillotson specialist body combined with a Commer TS3 chasis. A unique one off build or one of a small number ever built. A rare chance to own such a unique classic beauty. The famous bullet proof TS3 knocker engine.

The Commer TS3 “knocker” is a unique opposed piston engine and the sound is an instantly recognizable roar. The three-cylinder, six-piston, rocker drive two-stroke with a blower for scavenging makes an incredible noise.

After the vehicle was a blood bank, it was converted to a horse transporter many years ago. After that, she was rescued and restored to her original glory but this time as a motorhome by commercial restorers K&R Walsh Bros of Manchester.

If you look at their website and history of projects, you will see a full detailed description and photos of the full and I mean full restoration, it's amazing. I've also includes some photos on the advert.

The Commer TS3 is a two stroke diesel 3052cc engine. Registered as a motorhome on the logbook. She has a 6 speed gearbox. As you can see she was converted into a motorhome. She has all the usual motorhome amenities apart from a shower / toilet. One double room at the back and two single beds. My plan was to update and restore the decor. However, unforseen circumstances don't really warrant the time to do so.

The engine and vehicle are ready to drive. In fact, I drove her 70 miles the other day. She has had a recent oil change, complete cooling system overhaul, gearbox oil change, plus more. All lights work, air brakes etc and she starts from the half turn of the key every time. She's has just 56K mileage on the clock. She has even been upgraded to power steering steering, however I have never used it. It needs the belt installing for the powersteering (which I have) then she will turn with powerssteering assistance too.

As a 1973 classic motorhome, she is both MOT & TAX exempt. She does not cost much at all to have / run. She also has the benefit of classic insurance too which comes back as pennies, it costs me £17 per month.

As this is a classic bus you can also drive this on a normal car license. Please check out the DVLA regs.

This is an unbelievably rare vehicle and she will make a lovely/ unique motorhome. She's ready to be on the road, infact she is, she just needs some TLC inside to be an amazing finished project. I had hopes to do this myself however, with regret I am putting her up for sale. If she doesn't fetch the price she deserves, she will remain an amazing project until she is complete.
