Description

Needs restoring, but a very solid and original example which has been in dry storage for many years.

Very sound underneath - I’ve had a good poke with a screwdriver and found only one or two very small bits that need sections letting in. Overall, it is very solid throughout the areas around which these cars typically ‘go’. Floors, bulkheads, front apron, boot, bonnet hinge area, sills etc are all good.

Front wings require minor repair around sidelights and one section on the top of the nearside where a wing mirror had been removed (badly). I’ve ‘dug’ into it and it only requires a localised repair. Bonnet needs refitting. Paint is poor, although it still manages to look cool and the car sits well.

Interior is complete and in reasonably good condition - a thorough clean would do wonders for it and the leather should respond well to some hide food.

Engine is a 2-litre B20 single carb (late 1960s) unit which turns freely by hand, but hasn’t been started for years - we replaced the noisy water pump 10 years ago and it ran great then but will now require a battery, fresh petrol etc. Coolant was drained several years go and will need the bottom hose reattaching.

4-speed manual with overdrive (which worked fine when the car was last driven).

I have the ‘egg crate’ front grille safe in the boot, along with a new clutch slave cylinder and a few other spares.

Car has at some stage been fitted with a full stainless steel exhaust.

Car will of course need recovering but rolls and steers well for loading. I think you’d struggle to find a project 1800S in such sound overall condition as this one. Bought because I think 1964 is the best year for one of these, the ‘Cowhorn’ bumpers and swooping side trims set it off beautifully. I’m sad to sell it, but have come to realise I’m unlikely to get it back on the road - the car deserves to go to someone who can do it justice. I don’t think it will take a huge amount of effort to get it back up and running and could be a lot of fun left largely ‘as is’, or you could treat it to a full resto to show standard if that is your thing. I’ve owned the car since 2006, the previous owner since around 1990. Plenty of history going back to the mid-1960s. The car originally lived in Newcastle Emlyn in Carmarthenshire, hence the ATH registration.
