Description

PROJECT - OPEN TO OFFERS
The F7 has a 700cc twin-cylinder 2 stroke water-cooler engine. Starting is by dynastart. All steel chassis with ash-framed, plywood skinned bodywork. Bonnet and wings are steel. 3 forward gears plus reverse. Cable brakes. Front wheel drive.
I bought the car 11 years ago, drove it locally for very limited mileage for a few years, then decided the glue failure of the wooden bodywork needed attending to, and a general refurbishment was required. The car was stripped completely and the ash-frame bodywork removed from the chassis in one piece. The chassis was cleaned and inspected, no welding was required after 70 years! The chassis was primed and painted, and the main spine box section internally rust proofed. All suspension was dismantled, cleaned and painted. Some bearings and bushes were replaced due wear. The suspension was reassembled and refitted to the chassis. The brakes were relined. The body was refitted. Woodwork repairs were started. All plywood skins from the doors, sides, boot and interior were removed and discarded. No rot of the wooden ash frame was found, but many sections were loose at the joints due to failure of the original glue. The frame was partially dismantled one piece at a time, each piece being cleaned and refitted using aircraft quality glue. When the frame repairs were completed the body was re-skinned using aircraft quality ply and adhesive. My employment at that time was as a vintage and classic aircraft engineer specialising in wood and fabric airframes. I have since retired. At that point of the repairs my wife and l moved house to Shropshire. Over the last 2 plus years l have undergone major surgery twice with further surgery likely early next year. As a consequence of the move and illness the car has not been worked on for some time, and I have come to the conclusion that it is very unlikely that I will be able to complete the project. The car was complete and running immediately prior to dismantling so all parts should be present. Spares are available, new and used, from Germany where F7s and F8s are still popular. This car is very rare in the UK particularly an original right hand drive version. This is probably one of the last, if not the last one brought into the UK from Germany. I have a good idea of the value of these cars when in good running order or immaculate condition (see continental vehicle sale sites) but I have no idea what it is worth in Project condition, hence all offers considered. The complicated and time consuming repairs to the woodwork are all completed to a high standard, the bodywork and doors need refabricing and / or painting. The wings and bonnet etc are all sound but need preparing and painting. All window glass is present. V5c present in my name. Some historical paperwork and history and the old buff registration book are included. I am happy to answer any questions and I have many more photos of the work which has been done. Located South Shropshire. Mike.
