History The style of the Peugeot 404 is made up of straight, taut lines. There was a clear break with the curvaceous lines of the Peugeot 203 and 403. In addition to its classic bodywork (three volumes with separate boot) and modern styling (wings forming vertical fins and panoramic windscreen, a trend coming from the United States), the Peugeot 404 was characterised by its comfort, roadholding, performance and fuel economy.
The Peugeot 404 gradually improved throughout its career. It continued the tradition of quality and reliability of Peugeot models by adding a dynamic touch. Its styling became outdated, but its best year of production was 1967, a sign of the conservative nature of Peugeot's customer base. The car was a great success in France and abroad, where the 404 saloon continued its career until 1981. The Peugeot 404 is the fourth most produced Peugeot in history. The succession to the 404 was gradual, as is often the case with Peugeot. The Peugeot 504 successively replaced the top-of-the-range versions, the coupes and cabriolets, then the long estate, family and commercial versions, then the models for export markets and finally the pick-up. Description We are offering for sale this magnificent 1969 PEUGEOT 404 saloon in black livery with a red cloth interior. The car dates from 1969, one year after the simplification of the range with the disappearance of the super luxury model and the injection versions.
The models were fitted as standard with power-assisted disc brakes at the front, a Neiman-type steering lock, chrome headlamp bezels, one-piece bumpers, the addition of 2 reversing spotlights at the bottom of the rear lights, the removal of the stainless steel rear bumper bezel and the addition of two anchoring points for the seatbelts instead of the pillars. MECHANICS The engine was in excellent condition and started immediately. The engine compartment has received the utmost care, and all the peripherals are recent and operational. The car has a 4-speed gearbox, the lever is on the steering wheel and the gearshift is non-reverse, which is easier to use. INTERIOR The interior is like new, the seats, door panels, floor mats and dashboard are all in perfect condition. The dashboard is superb with its round counters, the air vents on either side and the large glove box which no longer locks on this vintage. Everything is operational, the counters are as good as new, the door seals are well sealed, the windows slide without resistance, the ceiling light works and the grail is the sunroof which also slides without resistance. BODYWORK The car has an extremely sound chassis, treated and repainted, as the photos can testify. The running gear has also been refurbished: springs, dampers, suspension, brakes, hoses, etc. The paintwork is magnificent, with no scratches or dents. The chrome is in excellent condition, as are the bumpers and all the lights. On the road, the car is very stable and safe, and it's great fun to drive. You could drive it for miles without getting tired, the steering is safe and so is the braking. As a big Peugeot fan, we are very proud to present this model for sale, which has no nasty surprises and is reliable. The black paintwork with its red interior gives it an intense personality that could make you think of a ministerial car or even a commissioner's car. We like to think of seeing Lino Ventura at the wheel. Our opinion We all have a memory of a PEUGEOT 404, which was part of our motoring landscape in our childhood. This one will bring back fond memories.
