Bonjour , L'atelier des 1000 is pleased to present for sale this superb Mercedes 250 CE W114 first series in an elegant configuration typical of the period with its Champagne metallic colour and Parechemin interior. Designed by the famous Paul Bracq , the 250CE was only produced for 4 years and just over 20, 000 examples were produced .
The example we are proposing was delivered new by the Paris Longchamp dealership on 10/ 02/ 1972 to Mrs Degrain who lived in Neuilly sur Seine and who was none other than the wife of the Mercedes distributor for the African market. Fitted with most of the options available in the manufacturer's catalogue, this 250 has, amongst other things, a rare 6-seater registration document, 3 at the front and 3 at the rear.
The car was serviced by the Longchamp dealership until 1983, when it clocked up 149, 000 km, as shown by the regularly stamped service booklet. Mrs Degrain kept the car until 1990, when she offered it to the second owner in return for a moral commitment to restore the splendour of the car given to her by her late husband.
The vehicle underwent an extensive restoration known as Body Off, as evidenced by a photo file and a large file of invoices. The work was undertaken between 1993 and 2005. Unfortunately, due to a lack of time and finance, the second owner was forced to part with the vehicle, handing it over to the current owner in 2015, who undertook to complete the work. Once the work was finished, he contacted the former owner to enable him to keep his promise and present Mrs Degrain with her Mercedes, which had been suitably restored. It's a wonderful story that is an integral part of the life of this car. In total, the file contains more than €36500 in invoices, including €13500 over the last 10 years, not to mention the many hours that were needed. The body was completely dismantled and the parts were sandblasted before receiving a full paint job. The alignments are within the standards, and all the bodywork joints were replaced on the occasion.
The beige leather upholstery has been treated and is in good, even condition, with a slight patina that we are not indifferent to.
The carpets and upholstery have been replaced, and there are no cracks in the dashboard. The instrumentation is in perfect working order, and the VDO speedometer was serviced a few years ago. The vehicle has the original sunroof, and the roof lining is in good condition. The original white Bakelite steering wheel is present and in very good condition. The mechanical parts have undergone a great deal of work, and are in very good condition and behave perfectly.
The gearbox, which is controlled from the steering wheel, is pleasant to use, shifting is easy and there are no signs of slippage.
The ignition system has recently been overhauled . The injectors have been replaced and the injection system overhauled . Various electrical jobs have been carried out, so all the components are in perfect working order . The running gear has undergone a complete overhaul in the past, and as a whole behaves very well, the vehicle is supple and handles pleasantly . The steering has no abnormal play and the suspension is in perfect condition and does its job . The brakes were overhauled a few months ago, and as a whole are efficient and well-balanced . The callipers have been rebuilt and the discs and pads replaced.
The Barock rims were refurbished last year and the tyres were replaced on the occasion. Rare: all the booklets, logbook and data card are present.
