Description
The XK150 was the third and final stage in the evolution of the XK concept. The model was launched in May 1957, initially with a choice of coupe (fixed-head) and cabriolet (drophead) body styles. The spyder followed almost a year later, and was initially only available with left-hand drive for export, most of these cars being destined for the U. S. The styling of the XK150 was modernised, and while the car lost some of the grace that characterised the first and purest version of the XK design, it clearly became more muscular. There have been other notable improvements. Although a 'standard' XK150 with drum brakes is listed in the catalogue, all production cars were of the 'Special Equipment' model, which had four-wheel disc brakes. The 3. 4-litre engine now produced 210 bhp, and 250 bhp on the new 'S' model equipped with a three-carburettor engine, introduced in 1959. That wasn't the end of the story either, as Jaguar introduced a larger 3. 8-litre XK engine. From October 1959, there was a 220bhp 3. 8-litre XK150 and a 265bhp 'S' version (gross figures). Total production of the XK range from 1948 to 1960 was 30, 000 cars, including 9, 385 XK150 models. This example, a 3. 4-litre with manual gearbox and overdrive, has been completely restored to engine, body and chassis. A total of 1, 339 examples were produced. It is in exceptional condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. Matching number and Jaguar heritage trust certificate. Delivered new in California, USA, it was imported to the Netherlands in 1986 where it was restored.
