Description
COBRA RAM 427 S/ C. Year 1979. Ford 408ci V8 (351W stroker 6. 7L). Toploader 4-speed gearbox, Jaguar front axle, Jaguar independent rear suspension. A little history... In the 90s, Cobra RAMs were honoured thanks to the BARDHAL Trophy. The Cobra RAM was chosen for the quality of its race-bred tubular chassis, developed by 2 F1 engineers, Adrian RAYNARD and David RENDALL. In 1993, Carroll SHELBY, on a European tour to promote his foundation, visited the RAM factory in England and, impressed by the quality of manufacture, granted them the licence "AC COBRA replica personnaly approved by Carroll. SHELBY"... This Cobra RAM dates from 1979. It was originally built by David Whitehurst Racing, an English workshop renowned for building racing cars. It was part of a limited series of 10 cars intended for competition. It was imported into France in 2013 as a right-hand-drive car, and in 2021 underwent a complete restoration, with left-hand drive, engine rebuilt from A to Z, new electrics, paintwork, upholstery, dashboard and controls in line with the original Cobra, exhaust system, wheels with central hubs, Avon CR6ZZ tyres, suspension, brakes, fuel tank, etc. The car is registered in France and is a collector's item, so it complies perfectly with the relevant legislation.
Finally, an important note concerning the purchase of a Cobra replica: Be very careful with Cobra replicas with normal French registration documents with a year of manufacture of 65 or 66. In the event of problems (such as accidents), the registration documents for these cars could be considered fraudulent by the authorities and insurers, and simply cancelled. The only solution in France today for registering a Cobra replica is the "carte grise de collection" (collector's registration document). But this is only available to brands (manufacturers) that are at least 30 years old (and the cars themselves, of course!), and this greatly reduces the choice available. Let's hear it...
