A magnificent 190 SL Well presented, restored in Holland by a marque specialist Bright grey on cognac leather with matching luggage A rare example delivered in Germany A much-loved first version THE MERCEDES-BENZ 190 SL Following the success of the 300 SL Coupé and Roadster, Mercedes-Benz's American importer, Max Hoffman, suggested that a similarly styled and less expensive alternative might be successful. The resulting 190 SL proved popular with the public at the 1954 New York International Motor Show, and remained in high demand throughout its nine-year production run. The 190 SL was well suited to touring, offering ample luggage space despite its convertible roof. The model has continued to impress discerning collectors, and masterfully restored examples such as the one offered here are rarely available to the public. THIS 190 SL The car offered here is a strikingly beautiful example of this spirited cabriolet. Beautifully finished in Anthracite Grey with a cognac leather interior, in 2013-14 it was restored to concours standards by one of the leading Mercedes-Benz specialist workshops in the Netherlands. No expense was spared to bring this 190 SL to a level of excellence rarely seen on these cars. Restorers stripped it down to the bare bathtub to ensure that every inch of the car was as exquisite as the next. Mechanical components were rebuilt using NOS Mercedes-Benz parts wherever possible and carefully detailed. The car has covered just 313 km (!) since its restoration, so the factory grey paintwork still looks stunning, as does the interior, which has been fully restored in the correct hides, in the correct shade of tan leather. Beige square cloth carpet and floor coverings complete the luxurious and impeccably presented interior. This car dates from late '56 and is well equipped with interesting options such as a Becker radio and whitewall tyres. Confirmed by the original invoice, the car retains its front and rear bumper guards (Stossstangen vorn und hinten - SA 55031) and, more importantly, it also retains its engine and powertrain whose numbers match those on the car!
The car is accompanied by a binder full of photos taken during its restoration and a matching set of luggage... Cherished by many enthusiasts for its looks, ease of use and reliability, the 190 SL has been a highly sought-after collector's car for years, with instantly familiar styling and an enjoyable driving experience for long journeys. This example, beautifully restored by marque experts, has been well preserved in the current collection and has much to recommend it to connoisseurs of these charming and eternally popular Mercedes-Benzes. Beautifully restored and detailed, it is suitable for touring, rallying or taking part in regional competitions. The car is currently registered in Belgium and is being sold in the name of our customer.
