Description
FIAT WAINER FORMULE JUNIOR 1959 A rare opportunity to acquire an authentic 1959 Fiat WAINER Formula Junior made in only 4 examples.
At the time, it was one of the first cars to introduce a rear-engine configuration in junior formula racing.
The bodywork was made entirely of aluminium, and the bonnet was a real work of art.
Wainer was a small, avant-garde racing car manufacturer based in Milan, Italy, run by Gianfranco Mantovani.
The first car was a Formula Junior made in 1958 and the last car was a Formula 3 made at the end of the 1980s.
This elegant little single-seater was powered by a Fiat 1100 cm3 engine prepared for racing, the two carburettors being rare Weber 38s.
The specially designed ladder chassis is reinforced and fitted with 4 real BORRANI wheels.
This car is very well documented (period photos) and raced extensively during the 1959 / 1960 period. It took part in around thirty races in 1959 and ten in 1960.
It won the ICECAR Grand Prix at Cortina in January 1959 in the hands of Manfredini.
This driver beat an array of fast cars and competent drivers, including a promising young Lorenzo Bandini. What a great era!
This car was completely restored in Italy some twenty years ago by the late Wainer Mantovani himself.
Since then, it has undergone extensive maintenance every year. It is regularly used for historic demonstrations with great care and respect for its mechanics.
She recently returned to her homeland and took part in the VERNASCA Silver Flag in 2019 and 2023, always very well maintained mechanically and cosmetically.
It was autographed by the famous Arturo Merzario and since then its bodywork has been fully varnished.
Recent work: Gearbox overhaul, ignition, carburettor synchronisation, fire extinguisher, new fuel pump, all hoses, fluid change, Dunlop racing tyres, brake cylinders, gel battery, exhaust system with silencer + new chrome megaphone, new water expansion tank and oil vapour tank, seat foam, etc. Possibility of a small trade-in, will consider all serious offers.
