Description
Here we have Ann Wynn”s beautiful 1968 Classic Ford Mustang. This car was built in the San Jose Ford plant in California and came off the production line on the 18th of December 1967 and then sold locally early in 1968. This car is a “black plate “Californian car. This indicates that it has spent its whole life registered in California and has retained its original black registration plate. This also shows low ownership as a black plate in its self is a wanted item. As can be seen in the photographs.
Mr and Mrs Wynn owned the car for some 28 years living in Chatsworth a very affluent part of North Los Angeles and as she described it became “part of their family.” We purchased the Mustang from Ann at her home here in Chatsworth. Unfortunately, Mrs Wynn had been widowed several years previously and Mr Wynn had wanted to return the Mustang to its former glory. She undertook the task of getting the car restored along with her family. The result we see here today.
When the car was new, it left the Factory in 1967 it was originally Candy Apple Red with black Everflex roof and Dark Red Crinkle seats. During the restoration, it was decided to keep the colour scheme original. So, a new interior was purchased from headlining down to the floor carpets. The coachwork was also stripped to bare metal and a high-quality repaint in Candy Apple was applied. (some photographic evidence available) Evidence shows the condition of the body before repainting, no corrosion whatsoever, shows a very straight body but the original paint had faded some over the years in the Californian sunshine.
The engine is the original c code optional 195hp 289 V8, this engine was totally rebuilt with better heads, mild cam, Cobra valve covers and air cleaner, high rise manifold, new Thorley headers and a great sounding new exhaust system installed. The four-speed manual transmission was also rebuilt including the addition of a Hurst shifter and new clutch. Other options which came with this car are Power Steering, Remote driver’s door mirror, hood signal lights and we have also added in our Mustang workshop new front power disc brakes and a set of new American Torque Thrust wheels with new tyres all-round. All rubbers have been renewed as has most of the chrome during its American restoration.
The underneath of the Mustang (floors, chassis, sills etc) is in top condition again no corrosion. As a matter of course, we undergo the cleaning and the addition of a hand-painted coat of quality underseal as opposed to spraying on thick glup! Which hides all manner of secrets? All windows, gauges etc have been checked and greased as has all the suspension parts where needed.
This Mustang has had a wonderful life so far and is in remarkable condition throughout which is a testament to the last owner. Ann”s great wish was that the next owner has as much fun as they had with her! This car is certainly a possible show winner although it could also be used daily or on a Classic European tour.
We sold this car approximately a year ago, to a Gentleman whose main reason for purchase, was to enter himself and his good lady wife into a 5-star rally through India. He asked us to prepare the Mustang in several ways.
1) A new gauge panel has been fitted showing upgraded oil, temp and volts. With switches for electric fan over-ride and a two-position petrol pump switch.
2) Front sump protector
3) Rear petrol tank guard.
4) Limited slip differential.
5) Insulated fuel lines.
6) Twin electric fuel pumps
7) Set of steel wheels
8) Bespoke four seat belt install.
Unfortunately, ill health has halted the enjoyment of this car, therefore the rally was forgone. We now have this fully sorted Mustang available once again. The car drives superbly and can be owned ready for any classic rally or Tour.
