Description
Subsequent to the success of the MkI, Sir William Lyons revised the saloon’s aesthetics and drivetrain into the MkII. As per his slogan of “Grace, Space and Pace”, he illuminated the lavish interior further by an 18% enlargement of the side, front and rear windows. The slimmer A and C pillars offered an ethereal lightweight appearance to the body while the chrome moldings embraced the cabin’s theater as viewed from outside. Its pace was also addressed by a wider live rear axle, revised suspension geometry and brake discs all around.
The MkII offered was ordered in 1963 and delivered in 1964 to feature one of the most refined non-standard color combinations of Opalescent Gunmetal Grey with Tan, a 3. 4 twin SU carbureted engine of 210 bhp output, a 4-speed manual transmission with a Laylock electric overdrive and wire wheels. Collected straight from the factory, the owner drove it all the way to his resort in the drier Athens, Greece. Four decades later the MkII was driven back to the UK where it was treated with full reupholstering to the original trim, a new wiring loom with original radio preserved, a full suspension/ brake overhaul and a full engine out service with new pumps seals, gaskets and a complete exhaust. Once in Athens, the body was treated with a full respray and underside maintenance to a stellar condition. This most elegant, single owner, all matching numbers and all original Mk2 is offered for the first time since new.
