Ref: SpecC
SMC Heritage are proud to present this incredibly special and totally unique, unregistered with almost delivery mileage Subaru Impreza Spec C.
About the Spec C:
Based on the Peter Stevens from Prodrive revised series 2 Impreza, the Spec C is a Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) Light weight special built by Subaru Tecnica International (STI) for homologation for Group N. In a nutshell, a Group N Car with a back seat in place of a roll cage sold to the general public. The Type C proved significantly faster, lighter and better handling than both UK and JDM STIs thanks to the Group N biased spec including: Revised Suspension and Increased Wheelbase, Twin-Scroll Ball Bearing Turbo, Driver-Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD-A)Equal Length Manifold, Engine Oil and Transmission Coolers, Anti-Surge Fuel Pump, Uprated Water Pump, Front and Rear Strut Braces, Underbody Aero Package, 12 Litre Intercooler Water Spray, Lightweight Front Subframe, Lightweight Aluminium Bonnet, Lightweight Aluminium Bootlid, Lightweight Roof, Lightweight Glass, Lightweight 50L Fuel Tank, Roof Vent, Lightweight Battery, Relocated Aerial. In addition to the above upgrades the specification was stripped back to save further weight: Rear Wash Wipe - Delete Privacy Glass - Delete Deadlocks- Delete Boot Trim and Carpet - Delete Passenger Sun Visor - Delete Grab Handles - Delete Ski Hatch - Delete Glove Box Light - Delete Isofix- Delete Deadening - Delete Underseal - Delete HID Headlights - DeleteSide Skirts - Delete - Electric Windows - Delete
Provenance:
Built at the Ota Factory to JDM Specification it was imported to the UK brand new by Prodrive and supplied unregistered to an avid collector and rally enthusiast. The vehicle would remain perfectly stored in time capsule museum conditions until the present day when it was purchased by the SMC Heritage Collection. The car is supplied with all the original Japanese booklets and instructions, both keys and an array of road tests and reviews
Exterior:
Evidently having always been garaged the flat white paint is in showroom condition throughout with perfect factory shut lines and a deep glossy finish. The rubbers, glass, plastics and exterior trims are all undamaged and factory correct. All the exterior graphics are also unmarked and free from any fading and or damage The BBS manufactured STI Gold alloys are totally unmarked still fitted with the distinctive factory fit Bridgestone RE 070 Cup tyres. This really is a cosseted time warp car and as close to a new Spec C as it is possible to get.
Underneath and under the bonnet:
Perhaps even more remarkable than the incredible condition of the paint work and trim is the underside of the vehicle. It could easily have just rolled straight off the factory floor, with factory wax and markings still in place. The engine bay is equally impressive, totally standard and spotlessly clean
Interior:
Hmmm, new car smell. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the miles the two-tone blue and black STI perforated alcantara sports seats are in incredible condition. Totally free from any damage or wear to the bolsters, they remain factory fresh and feel incredibly taught throughout. The black and blue alcantara combo extends to the door cards and they are again as new. Fitting with the incredible mileage the often tired, high contact areas of the cabin such as the STI steering wheel and gear knob show almost no signs of any use. All the switch gear is in perfect working order. The carpets are perfect throughout with the drivers side still protected by the transport wrapping. A set of original STI over mats are included although they have never been fitted. The boot area is unused with absolutely no signs of loading damage or any wear whatsoever.
Preparation for Sale:
Whilst we envisage this car will go back into a collection rather than into use. For the purchaser’s piece of mind should they wish, the car will undergo a full major service using only genuine parts, included the cambelt, pulleys, water pump, fluids etc. All the original items will also remain with the car.
Contemporary Road Tests and Reviews:
The Spec C hails from an era when Top Gear’s Chris Harris was plying his trade as road tester extraordinaire for the UK’s motoring press and unsurprisingly, he loved it reviewing it twice for Autocar:
C Is Cracking and Complete:
The most impressively uprated sports car since someone at Porsche decided he fancied the idea of a lightweight 2. 7 Litre 911 and would name it RS. This is Subaru’s RS.
Best British Handling Car – Rally Rockets (v’s the Evo):
More exciting, better steering and a brisker device than the Evolution. The King is dead.
Evo where equally smitten with the Spec C making the shortlist for Car of The Year and being tested alongside the legendary Porsche 996 GT3 and BMW E46 M3 CSL, hallowed company all-round
Overview:
This stunning time warp example surely must be the only one of its kind? Amongst its often thrashed and previously damaged peers it stands proud as the very best of its breed. Seldom does the opportunity arise to buy something so totally unrepeatable. A true Collector grade time capsule example of a JDM Icon that is totally unique in the modern classic market place.
The market for JDM classics is exceptional with a 22b of similar provenance recently selling for close to £300, 000 in the UK and a 260 Mile Skyline GT-R recently listing for $485, 000 overseas. As this example approaches eligibility for export to the USA this a perfect opportunity. Whether you are looking for the very best, most attractive and original example of this legendary car or a solid investment piece you need to see this car.
