Description
A unique Ford Model T Speedster from 1912. With few cars you can make such a journey through time as with this Frontenac racing car. Frontenac built race cars in the 1910s for prominent events such as the Indianapolis 500. In 1920 and 1921 they even won the Indy 500 with a Frontenac. The beautiful historic racer that we offer here not only puts a huge smile on our face, we can hardly contain ourselves when we walk past it to drive a bit in the Brummen area.
This Speedster is equipped with a 2, 896 cc four-cylinder that is originally good for, hold on tight, 22 hp. For the Frontenac, however, cylinders were installed that have been adapted to an ‘OHV’, or ‘overhead valve’ with larger valves. This increased the power to 65 hp, with which a top speed of about 140 to 150 kilometers per hour is possible. Trust us: the experience with this car is exceptional and the speed seems to be double what you actually drive. The first models had a two-speed gearbox, but that was not sufficient in this case, so two Wilson gearboxes were combined.
The great carriage looks beautiful and has a characteristic patina. A car like this shouldn’t look new, that detracts from the feeling of this time capsule. The front fenders are mounted to the superstructure with leather straps, and are connected to the rear fenders by short running boards with copper stepplates from Ford, the brand for which many parts of this racer come. The frame is a lowered version of the Ford model T, resulting in a much lower center of gravity. Behind the seats, which are great by the way, is the large oval fuel tank and behind it is a luggage box, where, among other things, the valves can be found with which the suspension spheres can be inflated.
The wooden spoked wheels are equipped with tires from Universal Tire and two spare wheels can be found on the back. This ‘vintage racer’ has a Dutch registration and a valid MOT, so you can enjoy it immediately after purchase! The most recent owner, who brought the car to the Netherlands eight years ago, did the same.
