Description

History:
The Italian refrigerator manufacturer and later builder of Isomoto and Iso Rivolta developed an unusual scooter with two aircraft engineers that was to revolutionise the automotive world. The Iso Isetta was derived from his name. BMW, in crisis at the beginning of the 1950s, was looking for a solution to get out of its difficulties and found it at the Turin Motor Show, where a licence agreement was signed with Renzo Rivolta. BMW, as an experienced motorbike manufacturer, used the 245cc engine from the motorbike range and sold the Isetta 250 from 1955. This is one of the last examples built and was first registered in Germany in February 1962. It was not until 2015 that the blue ball was imported to Switzerland and has been veteran-approved twice so far.

Bodywork and paintwork:
The paintwork was renewed around 10 years ago and shows slight signs of wear due to use. Overall, the bodywork is in very good condition. Only a small dent is visible on the front right and a few paint bubbles are visible.

Interior:
The leather has been refurbished to a high standard and the seats renewed during the restoration. The steering wheel is original and proudly shows its age and over 60 years of use. Overall, the interior is extremely well maintained.

Engine and mechanics:
The engine and exhaust emission values are impeccable. A major inspection with replacement of all fluids and ignition components is carried out at the time of purchase.

Chassis:
The chassis and brakes passed the MOT test in October 2021. Apart from replacing the brake fluid, no intervention is required.

Driving experience:
The Isetta has so many nicknames, such as "Knutschkugel", "Hallelujah car", "pothole detector" and "tarmac bubble", that this already says a lot about what you experience with this vehicle on the road. The affection of passers-by is enormous and you are tempted to indulge in the greetings and lose sight of the road. And this is important, the Isetta needs the same attention as a motorbike - with one exception, you stay dry in the rain.

Recommendation:
The BMW Isetta has made automotive history and is therefore a vehicle worth collecting. From an ecological and economic point of view, the Isetta fits in wonderfully with today's world. It was the first 3-litre car, can be parked anywhere, has low maintenance and care costs and is absolutely suitable for short journeys. There is even space and transport options for shopping. A sensible alternative to the motorbike and a charming competitor for the new Microlino.
