Description
1964 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III DHC
1 of 26 original LHD cars
How lovely to have this amazingly rare Silver Cloud III Adaptation by H J Mulliner back with us. Only 25 were ever made in LHD, mostly for the American market place. Happily this beauty was originally supplied to Europe, making her one of the very few.
A fabulous colour combination makes her even more unusual, being Velvet Green over Black hood and interior. Like all of the most valuable cars, she has enjoyed life in various homes around the world; Germany, California, New York & more recently in Switzerland and Monaco, where she was until a few months ago.
She arrived with us, and before listing her we wanted to make sure she was in tip-top condition. Initially we sent her for an MoT (hence the taped over head lights, as she is still using her LHD configured headlights).
After which we carried out a full service, including changing her drive belts, over hauling the carburettors (always an issue with cars not being driven much and ethanol in the petrol), new plugs and H/ T leads and a new distributor, after which simply purred as she was meant to when new.
We also made some repairs on the hydraulic hood mechanism, wiper motor was rebuilt, changed coolant hoses, flushed the cooling system and finally recharged the air conditioning system after replacing a high pressure hose - very chilly in the cabin now!!
These cars were completely hand built by Mulliner Park Ward, who took a normal and adapted an standard Silver Cloud III into a 2 door drop head coupe - extortionately expensive when new, hence only a few were ever made on the SC III chassis, and as mentioned above exceptionally rare in Europe
So rare even when new, they seem to be even rarer to see nowadays, unless to parade around a Concours arena, when even then you'll be lucky to see one in the flesh
This beauty has had only 4 owners since new, one being avid car collector Nicholas Cage. The most recent is based in the South of France and Switzerland and she sat alongside a Ferrari 250 California Spyder, amongst other exotica.
It is difficult to state just how original she is by our description or even the photographs, but mark my words she could sit in any motor house, museum or concours arena and still hold head up high, against any other car!!!
