Having been left standing for years in Texas our VTX1800 , fondly known as "Desert Storm" with the fitting of a new battery and fuel pump, lives and rides once more.
The cheapest VTX1800 I can find currently for sale is £5495 and that needs some work, then they head upwards to 8k, if someone wants to take on a cosmetic clean up, then £3795 will buy it warts an all! So has to be the cheapest you will see one for!
A quick appraisal of it is : Motor wise it sounds great, no nasties at all, gearbox, clutch etc are good and it actually rides really well, pulls like a tank up our farm road. Front brakes work well, rear there is nothing!. Electrics all work ( the nasty bolt on rev counter doesn't work). Being the upmarket R model it has the separate exhaust silencers and mag wheels, plus some one has replaced the original seat with an expensive after market one. Tyres look good but considering it was last on the road years ago are going to be old. There is transit damage to the front mudguard, rear is good. But as I said, it needs attention to the cosmetics, not rusty, more sand blasted! This means most of the alloy parts need some attention, while most of the chrome parts have cleaned up nicely some chrome has been lost on mounts etc. If we had the time we would strip the paintwork Strip all the alloy parts and have them polished, then bolt it all back together again, but we just have no time. The other option is if someone wants to, is to get it motd then registered and just ride it as is? G
