Description
1967 - Volvo P1800S – ONN2F – 122, 900 miles – Matching Nos - Overdrive - Lovely history file.
Magazine Featured in 2011.
An 11-owner car with invoices and MOT records back to August 1980 and 76, 000 miles. The car retains its original 1967 'Buff' Log Book and a written record of the owners from new.
As you can see the car has been kept in excellent condition and although many thousands of pounds have been spent on it over the years, it's only covered a little over 8, 000 miles since May 1997.
In more recent years, (2006) the then-owner had the car and engine built in a 'rally spec' (although now detuned for more road-biased use). It would seem that it was never used in anger as not long after completion the car was sold due to a change in circumstances.
Sherwood Restorations have had some previous dealings with the car during the 2004-2008 period.
Some further details of the history are set out below:
• Earliest bodywork invoice – Owner 4 - Niall Garden - Oct ’82 – Inner and Outer Sills – 95, 000 miles approx.
• Owner 5 – Andrew Kettles – 15/ 03/ 83 to 21/ 02/ 00 – May 1997 at 114, 576 miles - 153hrs of work. A general go-through and improvement after 14yrs of ownership
• Owner 6 – Barry Taylor – Feb 2000 to Dec 2004 – 114, 790 when bought, 115, 960 when sold. General servicing and notes about seat retrim/ carpets/ exhaust/ discs/ windscreen and trims.
• Owner 7 – Michael Stokes 10/ 12/ 04 to 10/ 09/ 06 – 115, 960 miles to 118, 400 miles. Car was looked after by Sherwood Restorations during this period looking at the file.
• Owner 8 – Ian Thurle – 10/ 09/ 06 – June 2008 - 118, 400 miles to 119, 719 miles. Sherwood Restorations sold the car and there are photos of the car being painted with the engine removed which would lead me to believe that these are from the 2006 to 2008 period that the car was with Ian. Ian Thurle is the chap who had the car changed to a more ‘Rally Spec’ but seemingly sold the car not long after the work was done. (See comment in the magazine by owner the next owner on my website 'Historical Pic' section).
The work carried out during Ian Thurles ownership was done by Classic Performance Ltd in Burton-Upon-Trent and included suspension upgrades inc polybushes and Bilstein shocks, plus the Minilites. The engine underwent a full rebuild and upgrade. Looking at all the notes and articles in the file it was well researched by Ian at the time. The block was rebored, head skimmed and a high compression set of pistons and a fruitier cam installed. It had new mains, big ends, new timing gear and carb upgrade performance manifold and exhaust.
• Owner 9 – Gary/ Fiona Pusey – 02/ 08/ 08 Sold by Sherwood Resto at 119, 719 miles - Owned until 30/ 11/ 17 and approx 120, 720 miles.
March 2009 at 120, 233 miles the car went to Spenser Lane-Jones Ltd and was detuned and set up more for road use and most of the ‘Rally’ stuff was removed. £2, 242 spent doing this. Photo in file at a show in May 2010 looking lovely. There are some excellent photos of the car in 2008 when sold by Sherwood Restorations, then various shots of the car in 2010 and then the magazine article in 2011. The car looks the same today as it did then. As you'll see below, the car remained largely unused from 2009 until its sale in 2017, covering just 500 miles.
• MOT’s – July 2010 – 120, 526 miles – July 2011 – 120, 544 miles.
• 20/ 07/ 11 – Classics Monthly – See photos and comments.
• MOT’s – July 2015 – 120, 699 miles – July 2017 – 120, 708 miles.
• Car sold to owner 10 David Jones 30/ 11/ 17 – until 01/ 09/ 19.
• Owner 11 – John Stones – (my client on a couple of other cars) He took the car as a px on a rather nice Oscar India Aston V8 in Sept 2019. John is retired and ex-motor-trade. He has a small collection of classics but is now looking to thin the herd. He has done various jobs on the car during his ownership and has maintained it as required. A list is being put together, I'll update this with the details shortly. (See below).
• The last invoice I have in the file is from Amazon Cars Ltd in May 2019 when £1, 750 was spent on servicing and upgrades as follows: 5 Blade fan to replace the electric fan, move coil to inner LH wing, 123 dizzy fitted, new rad, valves adjusted and set for KCam (which is the cam from the last fuel injected model that is commonly used according to Emma at Amazon Cars - a very handy lady to know), retard ignition, set carbs, fit lambda, spark plugs. I don't have a mileage on this invoice but I'm hoping to get this when I chat with Amazon Cars.
The car has been well cared for and Sherwood Restorations involvement bodes well, as mentioned above, the car has done hardly any mileage in the last 27yrs (8, 324 miles since May 1997 to be exact).
In that time it had both mechanical and bodywork lavished upon it and would seem to be a very good example of a 1967 model P1800S.
More recently, and just before the current owner bought the car, it went through the hands of Howard Watts, if you click on this link you'll see the car appears on his website under the restoration services section. If you call me I can go into more details, but the car had a partial restoration of the sills and lower wings and the engine was refreshed.

ADDITIONAL VIDEOS - I have videos of the car being started and driven from cold, and then one where I drive it once warmed up and describe how it's driving. These are available to any interested party.
