The Appeal
The P1800 was a simple idea. Volvo wanted to fill a gap in its model range with a car that would engage with the emerging American sports car market.
Often attributed to Frua, the elegant design was actually conceived by a Volvo stylist on secondment to the Italian coachbuilder. The gestation of the car was difficult because Karmann, who was in charge of building it, had to withdraw at Volkswagen's request, and then Jensen failed to live up to Volvo's expectations.
Only 6,000 P1800s were built by Jensen until March 1963. Known as the 'A Series' cars, they are considered to be the purest version of the design and, because of their rarity, are particularly sought after.
This car's chassis number places it as a late 1962 Jensen. In remarkable condition, it retains its original features and is both very solid and very presentable with an exquisite interior. The P1800 is a style icon and this delightful example demonstrates exactly why.
