Description
The rare MG YT, a 4 seat tourer / convertible version of the YA/ YB, was launched at the Motor Show in 1948 and only 877 of these cars were produced before production ceased in 1950. Powered by the 1250cc XPAG engine this 1949 YT has a period Judson supercharger fitted in pace of the twin SUs, which are included in the sale along with the original manifold and oil filled ‘tropical’ air cleaner.
Based on a pre war design shelved on the outbreak of WWII MG put the Y serious into production as part of the ‘export or die’ financial crisis post war. No YTs were said to be available for domestic sale in the UK albeit it is said a few did get sold domestically. All were said to be right hand drive.
This car was shipped to Australia eventually ending up in scarp yard in Tasmania before being rescued and rebuilt with the Judson and 1” oversize chrome wire wheels back on the mainland. The original wheels are also available, albeit unpainted.
The current owner purchased the car and shipped it to the UK, resprayed it in its striking yellow colour and finished the minor fettling required. The car has the original chronographic instruments, indicators taken from a YA (the YT did not have traficators), original seat slides, a functioning Jackall system (although currently drained), a full set of tools (including the Jackall handle) and handbook.
The car is not fast, even with its supercharger, but is ideal for weddings, proms and taking the grandchildren out for them to experience the joys of top down motoring.
The car is fully restored and requires no work!
