Description
We have a correct, matching numbers, example of what has become the most aristocratic 'airhead' in the BMW range.
It was supplied to a Monsieur Bertrand Blanc of Nice in the South of France. Later on in its life it ended up in Switzerland where it was totally restored to its former glory.
Showing just 14, 931 kilometres on the speedometer, it is the third series of the R90S. Finished in, arguably , the most iconic colour scheme in the motorcycling world, Metallic Smoked Daytona Orange.
This R90S gets the benefit of Marzocchi AG Strada 'piggy back' rear shock absorbers. They are fully rebuildable, have a 5 position pre-load system, an aluminium body and a heavy duty damper rod. A must have option, only available for the continental markets. They offer a much better controlled ride and sharper handling.
We have all the invoices for the restoration work, both keys, the tool kit and the pump.
Registered in the United Kingdom in 2021 and first ever registered in France on 19/ 05/ 1976, we have the original 'Certificat d'Immatriculation' or 'Carte Grise'.
The final version of the R90S got the 'Daytona' moniker because they won the very first AMA Superbike Race at Daytona International Speedway in 1976, indeed, they won the AMA Superbike Championship overall, Reg Pridmore took the honour.
A British rider, on a German motorcycle, winning an American title. BMW never looked back.
