In 1946 the Ford introduced the new and improved looking Super Deluxe with numerous improvements including a horizontal bar grille, a larger 100mph flathead V8 lifted from the upscale Mercury line and an upgraded interior. The model line had expanded in 1941 to include three trim levels; Special, Deluxe & Super Deluxe. The convertible body style was exclusive to the Super Deluxe series. Super Deluxe models boasted a glovebox mounted clock, a chrome steering wheel trim ring, crank controlled vent windows and twin sun visors!
Following the war, when development work had been halted, the cars that emerged looked very similar to the short-lived 1942 models. All Fords now used the 239 cu. in. Mercury flathead, rated at 100 bhp. The entry-level Special line of 1941/ 1942 was not revived, leaving only the DeLuxe and Super DeLuxe cars. Station wagons and convertibles were offered only in the Super DeLuxe models.
This striking 'Dynamic Maroon' 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Convertible is nicely optioned and sports an older restoration. Its exterior styling is enhanced thanks to the optional equipment, which includes front and rear extended bumper guards. During the restoration, the interior also benefitted from a re-upholstery in a fine red faux leather and cream cloth that complements the door panels and dash.
The 238 cid flathead V8 engine is sorted and backed by a three-speed manual transmission with column mounted shifter which combines to create 100 horsepower. An ideal drop-top for one looking to go on a weekend cruise or afternoon drive, this top-of-the-line Super Deluxe Convertible is everything one could want from a post-war American-styled vehicle.
