Description
We are pleased to offer an interesting and potentially, one of the rarest Austin-Healey models ever made.
In the late 1950’s to homologate the 100/ 6 with 4 wheel disc brakes, it is believed that around 40 to 50, 100/ 6S models were built from the factory, a replica of the prototype 100/ 6 that ran in the Mille Miglia with 4 wheel disc brakes and used to homologate the 4 wheel discs on the rally cars, often these cars were BN6 2 seat models and it is believed they were also dispatched with a matching hard top.
It is very hard to prove whether a car is a genuine 100/ 6S as no records were kept by the factory of which cars were converted and unless there is definitive proof in the history file, it is hard to be sure. However, 947 ECV, the vehicle we have for sale, is fitted with Dunlop round pad callipers on all 4 wheels. It is unusual for these brakes to be fitted retrospectively. Whilst it cannot be proven at this stage that is car is a 100/ 6S, the fact that it has 4-wheel disc brakes and it is a BN6, 2-seater, it is good enough evidence to suggest this is one of the 100/ 6S’.
This particular car was built and dispatched in 1958 and has a good history file documenting the car’s history. In 2020, the car arrived with us for some assessment work and improvements to overall handling. It was found to have a bent front chassis, a common issue with Austin-Healeys. We replaced the front chassis, completed other structural repairs, engine bay was repainted, a bespoke tonneau cover and hood was trimmed as well as other upgrades, a total of over £30, 000 of work completed.
The car is now driving just as it should. One the road the car is fun, it has lively performance and stops well, it is not perfect and does have some signs of cosmetic wear and tear but offers excellent fun and interesting history which could be traced further if desired.
The car would now benefit from some new tyres, and this could be negotiated into an offer on the vehicle. The car is on site and available for inspection and test drive.
Please understand that this vehicle is advertised as a 100/ 6S with best intentions and with evidence available, but a buyer should be open minded and not complete a purchase purely on this basis.
