Californian Back Story
The one owner was purported to have purchased the vehicle new and shortly after purchase seized the engine due to lack of lubrication. Volkswagen wanted to charge for a new engine, he refused and put the car in his garage for most of its life before it was imported to the UK.
Purchase / Restoration
Purchased from Martin McGarry in Mansfield. Martin is one of the most respected and well known Karmann Ghia restorers in the entire UK. Martin completed the majority of the restoration faithful to and maintaining the Original Factory Specification with the exceptions as outlined below. The cost of Martin McGarry’s part of the basic Restoration was £23, 750.
Martin produced a Photo album of the vehicle restoration from bare metal. The photo album is available for inspection. It provides definitive evidence of a very good original shell from which the project started. The beautiful paint finish is now 8 years on with no evidence whatsoever of any rust or degradation, a testament to the integrity of the shell from which we started.
Everything is working right down to the original clock !
