Description
The V8-250 was launched in October 1967 as a mild facelift version of the Daimler 2. 5 that had been in production since 1962. It was very similar in appearance but fitted with “slimline” bumpers, like the Jaguar 240/ 340 and alternator, individual air filters and various minor alterations to the interior trim. The manual versions are very rare; less than 200 were produced.
This car is a 1968 Daimler V8-250 in gold with red leather interior, chrome wire wheels and manual gearbox with overdrive. It presents in beautiful condition – the interior is all original with light wear and the upper body, paint-finish and underside are all in excellent order. The chrome and bright-work is also very good.
It comes to us from long term ownership – the last owner since 2013 - and it has a comprehensive history showing substantial expenditure. The engine was re-built in 1995, just 20k miles ago and more recently the body has had a light but comprehensive restoration and a high quality repaint.
On the road, this Daimler runs beautifully with strong power and excellent oil pressure and it drives superbly – perhaps better than any of the dozen or so of these cars that we have sold over the years. It’s much preferable to the automatic version as a car to use with relaxed cruising possible at motorway speeds thanks to the overdrive gearbox.
We have just treated this car to a little cosmetic tidying – it’s had substantial amounts of money spent on it over recent years and now wants for nothing except using and enjoying. The only job remaining is perhaps a little further detailing under the bonnet; a few hours pleasurable work as the starting point is highly original including the inner wings which are correctly body-coloured.
It comes with a comprehensive history file including an original handbook and service book, old MOT’s back to 1980 and bills for all of the maintenance, parts and refurbishment. The mileage reading of 82, 000 from new is almost certainly correct.
