Description
In 1961 the year when the legendary brand from Bremen went bankrupt, only 6’989 examples of the initially successful Isabella saloon were produced, with the cars from the 1962 model year only completed from end of June. Our example stems from this production and therefore boast a black dashboard a black steering wheel and the engine built to TS specification, only around 50 examples of this variant are known. The Isabella was exported to Switzerland and first registered in the Geneva Canton on the 19th of October 1962. After a change of ownership in 1975, the pretty saloon was de-registered in November 1979 and stored. In the following years, the Borgward changed hands several time but was not driven. With the vendor since 1996, the coachwork of the Borgward was restored and repainted a number of years ago. The engine as well as the rest of the mechanics were overhauled as necessary. The interior present itself in very nice original condition with age correct signs of use. We now offer the possibility to acquire a piece of German automotive history in very good condition and with a fresh MOT from May 2024.
ADDENDUM: Between 2018 and 2024, the electrics were redone, the bodywork completely restored, the interior refreshed, new carpets and a new headliner fitted – an extensive photo documentation of the restoration is available. The engine basically has TS specifications, but is only equipped with a single carburettor and accordingly - contrary to the catalogue entry - only delivers 60 hp.
